Confidence in Arms was founded by Michael to empower everyday Americans with the skills and mindset needed to defend themselves and their loved ones when it matters most.
With over 16 years of service in the U.S. Army at Fort Bragg, North Carolina—including 8 years with the 82nd Airborne Division and 8 years at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School—Michael brings real-world experience and elite-level instruction to every class. As a former Senior Instructor and Doctrine Writer for the U.S. Army’s foreign and non-standard weapons course, and a Green Beret trained as a Special Forces Weapons Sergeant, Michael has trained soldiers to master a wide range of firearm platforms under extreme pressure. Michael has supported Special Missions Units with mission specific training in preparation for overseas operations.
Now, through professional firearms training and self-defense training, he’s committed to helping responsible citizens build confidence, competence, and control in high-stress scenarios. His training is supported by a Bachelor of Arts in Homeland Security, as well as many certifications through the United States Army Special Operations Command and the private sector courses.
With over 20 years of military and private security experience, Shane brings elite-level expertise and a commanding presence to every training environment. A seasoned Protective Security Specialist and certified Firearms Instructor, Shane has served in high-threat protection roles around the globe—including the personal protection of U.S. Ambassadors and Department of State officials in Iraq and South Sudan.
Shane is a former U.S. Army First Sergeant and Senior Instructor, having spent much of his career training soldiers on foreign and non-standard weapons systems. He played a pivotal role in establishing the U.S. Army's foreign weapons course, personally selected out of 200 candidates to build the program under the direction of the Army Chief of Staff. His instruction has directly supported Special Mission Units preparing for overseas deployments.
As a firearms instructor, Shane is known for his rigorous standards, safety-first mindset, and deep understanding of real-world applications. He is qualified on a wide range of weapons systems and has led courses in both tactical and civilian settings.
Shane holds a Bachelor of Business Administration, is a certified CPR/AED provider, and maintains a Department of State Secret Security Clearance.
Shane’s mission is to pass on proven tactics and confidence-building skills to students of all levels, ensuring they leave every course more prepared, aware, and capable.
